Legislative Caucus on Aging Presents Homestead Exemption Facts, Projections and Exploring it’s Future in Colorado

You are invited to learn about the projected fiscal impact for the Senior and Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption, commonly referred to as the Homestead Exemption. Rep. Chris Kennedy – House District 23 and Natalie O’Donnell Wood – Senior Policy Analyst at The Bell Policy Center, and members of the Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging will be presenting Overview of Homestead Exemption projection research conducted by the Colorado Futures Center. Also in attendance will be Vance Roper – Joint Budget Committee Staff and Greg Sobetski- Senior Economist, Legislative Council Staff. With unprecedented growth – the third fastest in the nation – the number of people aged 65 and older in Colorado will increase by nearly 70 percent by 2030. Correspondingly, the Homestead Exemption reimbursement is anticipated to grow tremendously as well. It has nearly doubled from $84.5 million in 2008 to an estimated $154 million in 2018. Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging Public Meeting

The Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging (SAPGA) was created by the Colorado General Assembly in 2015 to help the state plan for a significant demographic shift when nearly one out of every five Coloradans will be 65 years or older by 2030. The 23-member group, appointed by the governor, typically meets monthly to explore related issues related to aging in Colorado. In 2018, the group will be working on updating its action plan to the state, which is due by the end of the year. Information about SAPGA, its 2016 action plan and a summary of the recently concluded regional meetings is available on the group’s website. SAPGA wants to hear from you. Arapahoe County Council on Aging Monthly Meeting
Location: Caley Ridge Assisted Living

Arapahoe County Council on Aging (ACCOA) is the official spokesman for the aging population in Arapahoe County. The group meets monthly on the 4th Monday of the month and features either a panel or presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend the ACCOA meetings. They are open to the public, professionals, retirees, all ages. Light refreshments are served. People attending ACCOA meetings at the Caley Assisted Living facility are not to park in the Vet’s paved parking lot and are to use either the Caley Ridge parking lot, the graveled/rocked vet parking lot, or the parking lot next door at Boston Commons as long as it is NOT the covered parking.

Vintage & Vibrant Living Well & Aging Expo

The Seniors’ Council is pleased to host Vintage & Vibrant, a one-day celebration of aging in Douglas County. Morning keynote speaker is Karen Brown, the Chair of the 2018 Colorado Strategic Action Planning Group on Aging, and Wade Buchanan the Governor’s Senior Advisor on Aging. The Luncheon keynote is Ryan the Robot and her creator Professor Mohammad Mahoor. Ryan was created to assist seniors and those with memory loss remain independent and engaged in the community. Event will offer a variety of additional topics targeted to ensure our communities are a good place to Live Well and Age Well! Cost to register – $5 includes lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments, and all workshops and other activities. 24 Break-Out Sessions on topics such as: Avoiding Investment Fraud, Estate Planning, Power-of-Attorney, Gun Safety and Regulations, Code Enforcement Laws, Fire & Fall Prevention, Medicare/Medicaid, Probate, Advanced Directives, ID Theft Prevention and more. Registration fee is $10 and provides Continental breakfast, Mid-morning snack, Box lunch, Ask-An-Attorney—15 minute free sit-down with an attorney and a copy of the 2018 Colorado Senior Law Handbook.
